Ant Reproduction

Ants have four distinct growing stages: the egg, larva, pupa and the adult. Most queen and male ants have wings. Mating takes place in the air. After this, the queen falls to the ground and looks for a place to start the new nest.

The life of an ant begins with the egg. If the egg is fertilised, the ant will be a female. If not, it will be a male. During the night, the worker ants move the eggs and larvae deep into the nest. This is done to protect the eggs and larvae from the cold. During the day, the worker ants move the eggs and larvae back to the top of the nest, where is warmer.
